Shell Yes Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 August 2026
Shell Yes is made by Fastronaut (Bram Van Oost), Ghent, Belgium.
This is the short version: the game has no accounts, no ads, and no way to identify you. It sends a small amount of anonymous usage data so I can tell whether people are enjoying it. Nothing else leaves your phone.
What stays on your device
Your settings, your statistics, and any game in progress are stored only on your iPhone, using the system's standard local storage. They are never uploaded, and they are deleted when you delete the app.
What the app sends
Shell Yes uses Aptabase for anonymous usage analytics. I self-host it at aptabase.fastronaut.com, so this data goes to my own server and is not shared with an analytics company.
The app records these events:
app_openedandapp_closed, with how long the app was in the foregroundgame_ended,game_won,game_lost, with the final score, game length, and which difficulty and pace you played ongame_bank,game_steal,game_bust, describing moves made during a game
Alongside each event, the Aptabase SDK records your app version, iOS version, device model, locale, and country. Country is derived from your IP address at the moment the event arrives; the IP address itself is not stored.
Each app session is tagged with a randomly generated identifier that changes regularly. There is no account, no advertising identifier, no persistent device identifier, and nothing that links these events to you, to your other apps, or to your activity anywhere else.
What the app does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising SDKs
- No tracking across apps or websites
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access
- No accounts, sign-in, or email collection
Why I collect anything at all
Knowing how often games are finished, which difficulty people choose, and how long a session lasts is what tells me whether the game is any good and where it needs work. Under the GDPR, the legal basis for this is legitimate interest: the data is anonymous, minimal, and used only to improve the game.
How long it is kept
Anonymous event data is retained for up to 24 months, then deleted.
Your rights
Because the data is anonymous, I cannot connect any of it to a specific person, which means I cannot look up, export, or delete "your" data on request; there is no identifier to look it up by. If you would prefer to send nothing at all, deleting the app stops all data collection immediately.
If you have questions about any of this, or want data collection discussed further, contact me at the address below.
Children
Shell Yes is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
